Tribute & Message From The Family

Elaine Osborn Steitz was born on April 10, 1940 in Houston, TX to Lena Tucker and John Leon Osborn. She attended River Oaks Elementary, Lanier Junior High, and Lamar Senior High School. She then went on to the University of Texas where she met her future husband, Walter Richard Steitz.

They married in 1962 and faithfully served the Lord together with Campus Crusade for Christ (now CRU). In 2004, Walter passed away unexpectedly while serving in Singapore at the East Asia School of Theology. Elaine continued to serve with CRU working with International Student Wives at Dallas Theological Seminary, until her Alzheimer's diagnosis kept her from continuing to serve in that capacity.

She made an eternal impact on thousands of people that she reached for Christ. She passed away peacefully on April 9, 2019 with two of her children by her side. She is survived by her children Daniel Steitz and his wife Natalie, David Steitz and his wife Jan, Deborah Snell and her husband Steve, Jonathan Steitz and his wife Kelli, 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Walter Steitz, her parents Leon and Lena Osborn, her brother Dennis Osborn and her great grandson Ari Steitz.

Celebration of Life is on Tuesday, April 16 at 11:00 at Redeemer Bible Church, 721 Easton Rd, Dallas TX 75218. A graveside service for family will follow on Wednesday in Houston, TX.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Elaine, hosted Young Life at her home during high school and later we touched base at Dallas Seminary when i would teach there as an adjunct or represent missions there. As you go different ways in life it is encouraging to have connecting roots that trace back to our youth. Elaine was always an encouraging friend.

What a mighty warrior for Christ your mother was. She has indeed changed eternity and left a wonderful legacy to her beloved children and grandchildren. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed. Love to all her family at this time.

To the Steitz family,

I am so glad to have known Elaine. Even though it's been many years since seeing her face-to-face, her love and kindness is reflected through her children and grandchildren. I was blessed to have met her through her son Daniel as my youth pastor. She always had a kind word whenever she was in town for a visit. I thank God that He made such a wonderful person. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

To Elaine's Family
I came to know her during her stay at Oxford Glen. She was a very good friend to my mother, Ann Grindle. My mother said she was a best friend. It is clear by reading her obituary, that through her life and through the Lord, she touched many people in positive ways. Even though her illness and during her stay at Oxford Glen her work continued. I am truly sorry for the loss of such a special person. May the Lord bless you and sustain you through your grief.
